  1. This was an awesome and important article. Very informative and helpful. Also, Coach Ingham is exactly right in all that he said. I can testify as an aspiring strength and conditioning and collegiate basketball coach.

  3. Preach everything you say! It's a shame, I saw so many Sports Science students who didn't capitalise enough. Although sometimes not ideal, the hours I spent volunteering in labs were the most valuable aspects of my undergraduate.

  4. Nice blog Steve - a good balance between hands-on experience in preparation for sport science support for elite performers and the multitude of other outcomes we try to provide our students on Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences programmes like ours here at Loughborough University.

  5. Great article demonstrating the qualities needed. Let's not forget another important cog in the wheel, the lecturers. Having gone through two universities it has been a case of lecturers providing an opening into an internship, though biomechanics has a LONG way to catch up - the MSc was 100% theory with very little "sports" in it. Research the institute and lecturers and showcase yourself to them especially.

  18. Excellent advice Steve. Resonates well with the aims of my modules and the key will always be if students take the initiative even after you provide them with the framework and impetus to go out and do in between the knowledge blocks. Chris Harwood
